Taking leave

Employee members only

From 1 July 2014, eligible defined benefit members on approved leave without pay (LWOP) will continue to accrue their APSS Defined Benefit superannuation at the salary rate that applied immediately prior to the period of approved leave, up to a maximum period of 28 days.

The only exception to this is for eligible defined benefit members on approved periods of maternity, paternity* or adoption* leave, who will continue to accrue their APSS Defined Benefit superannuation for a maximum period of 12 months in total, inclusive of any paid or unpaid periods.

*Note that Australia Post and some Associated Employers do not currently provide employees with any paid or unpaid leave entitlements for adoption or paternity leave, however this may change in the future. Please check with your HR Manager to confirm your leave entitlements.

Leave without pay (LWOP)

The APSS continues to provide Death and Total Permanent Disablement (TPD) cover for up to 12 months of approved LWOP for members eligible for 14.3 % Defined Benefits. (SG members are provided with death cover only.)
