You cannot continue your APSS Defined Benefit after you have left employment, but you can transfer the final value of your Defined Benefit, along with any Member Savings you may have, to an accumulation account such as an APSS Rollover Account or (if eligible) the APSS Pension.
Once the APSS is notified that you have resigned or been made redundant, and receives all the necessary information from your employer, you will be sent an estimate of your APSS Defined Benefit and details of any Member Savings you may have.
Enclosed with your estimate will be a Make a Benefit Payment Direction form to complete and return within 60 days of the date APSS writes to you.
If you do not complete and return the form within 60 days, we will generally transfer your benefit to an APSS Rollover Account. For details about your options, review the
Leaving employment
page on this website (under the Life Changes tab).
You can of course apply within those 60 days to lock in your new APSS arrangements sooner and/or to customise your new membership. To do this, you will need to complete the Make a Benefit Payment Direction form mentioned previously, as well as the Open an APSS Rollover Account form that will be sent to you along with it.
